Dear readers, I know it’s been far too long since an update happened. Many apologies. Even though I haven’t been posting, we have been hard at work. Last time, I mentioned some electrical work that needed to be done. Well, with half the insulation out of the attic, the job was easier. For a while it was all wire all the time. Including “find the hidden junction box.”

I’ll make a long story semi-short, the new electrical inspection that we got after removing the drywall revealed a major code violation that could have potentially resulted in electrocution or fire. Since it was technically outside of the scope of our project, the inspector didn’t fail us, but he did say “get it fixed. Tomorrow.” Apparently, some idiot had used a ground wire as a neutral, and well, you just don’t do that. So, first task was to find where the splice was where this insanity happened.

This should have been an easy task. But no. Whoever finished the basement covered up several junction boxes behind drywall. Many holes later, and the culprit was found.

This bad boy was effectively under our cleaning closet. Accessible if you cut open the drywall and and long tiny hands to reach up there. Oof!

This, of course, created a new problem. To meet code, junction boxes must be accessible, and it’s not particularly accessible in its current location. So, J moved it up a bit to be in the wall at the back of the cleaning closet.

I won’t bore you with more details, but more rewiring happened. The house is less likely to burn down now.

And after electrical work? MUDDING! J is absolutely loving this part. But look at all this great work.

So, the toilet and vanity are where there was, at one time, a closet. J hated that there was still a beam showing across the area on the ceiling. So he took it out. And found that the ceiling on one side was not even/level with with the main ceiling.

It’s going to be lovely.

Meanwhile, I’ve been working on the vanity cabinet pieces.

It started to get a little gusty, so I put them away for the rest of the day. I didn’t want to risk getting little pieces of yard debris and dirt in the fresh paint. So many pieces.

So that’s what we’ve been up to. It’s a long process, but it’s going to be great.
